At I AM YOU, we orient all our actions with people in mind. Whether it is tailoring our class schedule to meet students’ needs, or opening our services to registered and unregistered residents alike, we focus on people when designing solutions. Furthermore, because we understand the pressure that comes from operating in a stressful environment, we are patient and empathetic with residents, colleagues, other actors - including ourselves.
Having in heart that we all are working for the same goal, we at I AM YOU focus on listening to colleagues, residents and other actors in our work. This takes the form of sharing our resources with other organisations and focusing our energy on programs that have been requested by the community we serve. Finally, we work with donors to provide reporting that is focused both on qualitative and quantitative results.
Creating avenues for feedback and reporting from volunteers and beneficiaries of our services allows us to learn and grow. By monitoring, tracking, and evaluating our services and our donations, we are able to accurately engage with our successes and our failures.
We make plans, but are always aware that they can change any moment due to the instability of the environment we work in. We are ready to change our plans in order to help each other our. We accept this and don't take it personally. We are proactive to changing needs, and always communicate openly to avoid any frustration. Finally we accept that things not always finish where they need to be.
At I AM YOU we are not shy or afraid to speak freely amongst other actors in meeting and outside of them. We always raise the voice of the residents. We say "no" when we think more harm than good will be done. We are not afraid to push for things we believe in, even if they're innovative. We encourage other NGO's to review their actions. Finally we provide space and support for our Volunteers to take initiative.
